National Park ‘Gates’

information on barrier-free facilities

There are currently four visitor centres, known as National Park Gates, in the Eifel National Park. They are located in Simmerath-Rurberg, Monschau-Höfen, Nideggen, and at Heimbach station. These centres provide accessible exhibitions and helpful information about the National Park – and serve as great starting points for discovering the surrounding nature.

All National Park Gates offer:

  • Step-free access

  • Accessible toilets

  • Films with subtitles and sign language interpretation

Additional Features at Höfen and Nideggen

The visitor centres in Höfen and Nideggen include:

  • High-contrast tactile floor guidance systems

  • Audio guides in four languages

  • Sensory stations for smell, touch and hearing

Special Services in Heimbach

The Heimbach centre also provides:

  • Touch samples

  • An audio story for blind and visually impaired guests

  • Information in braille and standard print
