Discover Lake Senftenberg in the heart of the Lusatian Lakeland, one of the most popular holiday destinations in eastern Germany. Ideally suited for wheelchair users: from the ramp at the holiday home to the boat lift and wheelchair spaces in the amphitheatre. Here are some tips for four days on and around the water!

After checking in at reception in the early afternoon, you will arrive in one of the six barrier-free terraced houses, which are designed for up to three people. The rooms are easily accessible via a ramp. They offer a cosy living room, a modern kitchen with a wheelchair-accessible sink and cooker, a large bathroom with grab rails and two bedrooms. You can arrive in peace and quiet on the terrace and relax with coffee and cake.
In the evening, you can easily cycle from the accommodation towards the lake on the flat paths. In the Italian bistro ‘Due Fratelli’ you can enjoy a beautiful view of the lake on the terrace with pizza and pasta.

After breakfast, head to the harbour camp not far away, where Expeditours rents out sailing boats, canoes and rafts at the barrier-free marina. A lift makes it easier for you to get into the boat. Then it's out onto the lake for a relaxing trip. Back on land, the café in the harbour camp rewards you with homemade ice cream for a refreshing break.
An even more comfortable way to explore the lake is to take a trip on the barrier-free passenger boat ‘Santa Barbara’, which departs from the landing stage in Großkoschen, near the family park. The one-and-a-half hour round trip starts at 10.30 a.m. with drinks and a small snack while the on-board staff look after your well-being.
For lunch after the boat tour, we recommend the Sonnenhof 1864, where a former farm has been lovingly and cosily renovated into a family restaurant serving regional cuisine.
In the afternoon, there is time for a little journey into the past. Did you know that Lake Senftenberg is actually still quite young? Just over 50 years ago, there was an open-cast lignite mine here. The accessible Senftenberg Castle and Fortress Museum tells fascinating stories about the mining tradition and bygone eras of this region.
If you haven't had enough experiences today, another cultural highlight awaits you: In the amphitheatre you can experience concerts, spoken theatre and musical events. By the way: wheelchair users get the best seats in the front row!

After enjoying activities on the water yesterday, keep your feet dry today and explore the lake from land. At iba-aktiv-tours, you can swap your wheelchair for a handbike and cycle around the 18-kilometre lake circuit. Thanks to its flat profile with wide tarmac paths, the lake circuit is not only popular with cyclists, but also with joggers, skaters and is perfect for handbiking. What's more, the Seerundweg is completely car-free and very safe thanks to the kilometre marking system, which not only provides orientation but also safety. If you are in distress and need help, you can locate your own position more quickly and communicate it to helpers.
Longer routes are also possible by combining several circular lake routes. One option is a 37-kilometre route that leads around the neighbouring Geierswalder and Partwitz lakes.
The more leisurely option for today's excursion is a ride on the Seeschlange miniature railway, which also has space for wheelchair users. The starting point is at the reception of the family park and it takes you to various destinations in the Lusatian Lakeland.
A reservation is required in advance for both the hire of a handbike and the ride on the Seeschlange.

For lunch, we recommend a visit to the Seestern restaurant in the family park. You can either eat outside on the terrace or in the dining room if the weather is bad. There's something for everyone - you can choose from fresh salads, burgers or cakes for those with a sweet tooth.
How about a round of minigolf, skittles or table tennis? If you haven't tried it yet, now is the perfect opportunity to fully explore the family park. The bowling alley, table tennis tables and minigolf course are all accessible.
