The Renaissance fortress in Senftenberg dates back to the time when the town belonged not to Brandenburg as today but to the Electorate of Saxony. It is Germany’s only surviving fortress of earthen construction.
The museum inside presents the centuries-old history of the Lusatian region in a tactile, visual and audio format. There is so much to discover here: Senftenberg’s oldest fire service, the largest wine press in the region, a Sorbian farmhouse parlour, a historical classroom, an authentic mining tunnel, plus exquisite paintings, prints and sculptures from the museum’s private art collection.
Guided tours and itineraries are put together to meet the needs and requests of visitors.
