Knappenrode Energy Factory

The Energy Factory in Knappenrode, which was decommissioned in 1993, is a fascinating reminder of Saxony’s industrial heritage. Now an industrial museum, it offers a fascinating insight into the history of mining. There are twelve exhibition and discovery areas spread across this vast factory site. The highlight is the Factory Discovery Tour (FabrikErlebnisRundgang). Selected machines have been put back into operation, with the heat, dust and noise creating an authentic impression of what it would have been like to work here.
