Telemann Festival 2026 An Opulent Festival Dedicated to “Music – Power – Telemann”

With resounding trumpet fanfares, blazing horns, and rolling timpani, the 27th Magdeburg Telemann Festival Days will take place from 13 to 22 March 2026. Under this year’s motto, “Music – Power – Telemann,” the festival shines a spotlight on the musical representation of worldly, spiritual, and divine power.

Organised biennially by the City of Magdeburg (Centre for Telemann Care and Research), the festival has been regarded since 1962 as an internationally significant forum for engaging with the works of Georg Philipp Telemann. In the composer’s birthplace, the city commemorates an exceptional artist whose influence extended throughout Europe.

Programme Highlights:
The festival is distinguished by performances of representative works, including:

  • Opera productions and oratorios
  • Large-scale instrumental music featuring internationally renowned artists
  • Genre-crossing concert formats at various venues such as the opera house and the Gesellschaftshaus

“The audience can look forward to an opulent festival that makes Telemann’s music newly audible as a medium of power—positioned between civic pride and artistic sovereignty,” say the organisers.
