The scale model of the old quarter, which stands in front of the town hall on Fischmarkt square, offers a fun, interactive impression of the city. Street names and sights are marked in Braille. Visitors, and locals too, take pleasure in exploring the model's contours - the church towers, for example - and getting an instant feel for the layout of the sights and attractions. This impressive model was made from a bronze slab weighing around 200 kilograms and rests on a 4 tonne solid block of marble. It was created in meticulous detail by Egbert Broerken, an artist from North Rhine-Westphalia, who took over 3,000 photographs, studied numerous aerial views and historical maps, prepared an exact wax mould, labelled the streets and buildings in Braille and gave the city a wonderful bronze sculpture with a scale of 1:780 for everyone to enjoy.
