Deutsches Sielhafenmuseum Carolinensiel

The German marshland harbour museum invites you on a journey into the past – back to the time of the cargo ships that set sail from Carolinensiel and many other marshland ports on the German North Sea coast for the Netherlands, England, the Baltic, the Mediterranean and even South America. Life on the coast was shaped by the sea. Time and again it threatened people’s lives and livelihoods, and they did everything in their power to fight back against its storm tides. But they also earned their living from the sea, as sailors on merchant ships or as fishermen. At the marshland museum in Carolinensiel, we want to show you how people used to live and work in a marshland port. Our three heritage-listed houses with 2,500 square metres of exhibition space, the museum harbour and the museum trail present the many fascinating topics of the museum in a unique and special way. Let us whisk you away to bygone times.
